Four Rules of Classroom Management for Nigerian Teachers

 Entry behaviour

This is the knowledge which the students have acquired before either directly or indirectly which are relevant to the new topic that the teacher intends to teach.

It is quite similar to introduction but focuses on what you have taught them previously which relates to water transportation or transportation. Asking questions on previous knowledge e.g. ‘what is transportation? What are the types of transportation?’ etc.

Behavioral objectives

This is the intended outcome of the learners at the end of the lesson; it is what the students will have learnt at the closure of the lesson. E.g. ‘at the end of the lessons the students will have learnt what water transportation is, the types of water transportation and goods that are transported through water.

Content

This is the main idea a note on the topic of discus, what ever you want to students to copy will be here, that is why it’s a bit longer, it is detailed.

Introductory remarks

This is the way or manner you will use to introduce the topic to the students, e.g. ‘if you have seen a ship, or know what it is, let me see you hands up’ the students will interact about, ships and boats and stream, rivers etc. This will set the stage for water transportation which is our topic.

Teacher activity

A step by step guide on what the teacher intends to do, one after the other. This may include copying the note on the board, question and answer, revision etc.

Students’ activity

The same as teacher activity both opposite, in that this is a step by step guide on what the students will do during the lesson, e.g. step 1 provide answers to question, step 2 write down notes, step 3 solve class work etc.

Closure and evaluation

The both can be merged together or substituted for one another, as the go together, closure or summary and evaluation is when you summaries everything you taught and ask question based on what you just taught the students.

Assignment

Here you write the assignment the students will do at home, as part of their practise on the topic taught.

In the other types of lesson note some of the above might be omitted but, for every new lesson this is the comprehensive form.
