 Lesson Note for Teachers in Nigeria

A lesson note is step by step guide into a specific lesson made by the teacher before the lesson; it can also contain important information about the expected outcome of the lesson, the sources of information and students’ data.

 

A well written lesson note define the context of the topics in a particular subject and help the teacher to focus on the subject curriculum. It is important also for the students because the teacher through his or her lesson notes can be supervise by the school authority or special education authority that overseas the standard of learning in every school.

 

There are many format that lesson note can appear but for new teachers or people who become teachers without passing through teaching school or program, it is important to understand the best and simple format you can follow to prepare a well rounded lesson note.

There are types of lesson notes, which are: new lesson, review lesson, skill practising and continued lesson note.

 

The example above is for a new lesson note.

 

The teacher’s name is first, name of school you teach, date this topic will be taught, the time, period (e.g. third period or seventh), duration(e.g. 40minutes or 1 hour), age of learners(6-9), subject to be taught, class (e.g. JSS 2a), topic(e.g. transportation), sub topic (e.g. water transportation).

 

Reference materials

These are the materials in which the content of the lesson have been adopted from. It should be textbooks or other written materials.

 

Instructional materials

There are materials that aid the teaching and learning process. It could be in form of videos, maps, charts, textbook, projector, radio etc.

    this is quite interesting and it has been the format in use from time immemorial. i am having some problems in the new system in abuja now called SMASE (strengthening mathematics and science education) and this lesson note format is now made compulsory for teaching all the subjects saying it is with the accordance with the federal government and japanese govt. please can you find out what is going on before our education is completely destroyed for some selfish interests. thanks and keep up the good work.

  39. sometimes it might mean the same thing, it all depends on what each school call it, nevertheless lesson plan is well structured must follow the standard format details of lesson content is not required in lesson plan while lesson notes needs the detail because you will use it to teach in the class it will be too monotonous(tedious) for a teacher to write both separately so most schools adopt lesson note as lesson plan.
