National Common Entrance Examination in Nigeria is the final year examination taken by students in their final year of primary school to gain admission into secondary school in Nigeria. Common entrance is a crucial exam for students seek admission into secondary education in Nigeria. Just like so many examinations in Nigeria, the result of National Common Entrance exam is graded and a student needs to score very high in order to get admitted into his or her chosen secondary school in Nigeria.

 

There are different entrance route depending on the type of secondary school you wish to attend in Nigeria. Basically we can categorized our secondary schools in terms of National Common Entrance examination in the following manner; Federal Secondary Schools, State Secondary Schools and Private secondary school in Nigeria

 

Federal Secondary School National Common Entrance Examination in Nigeria

Federal Secondary School National Common Entrance Examination in Nigeria is for student planning to attend any of the Federal Unity Colleges in Nigeria. The purpose of this examination is to select the best candidates from every state of the federation and the federal Capital territory (FCT) for admission into federal Unity colleges. These Colleges are essentially, Secondary schools owned by the Federal Government of Nigeria. Their objective is to foster unity amongst the children of Nigeria.

 

Two are held annually. Results of the first examination determine candidates that qualify for a second examination based on cut-off marks for each state. The results of the second examination qualify candidates for admission based on merit, equal state quota and environment considerations.

 

Federal Secondary School National Common Entrance Examination in Nigeria is conducted by National Examination Council (NECO) in Nigeria and it is called NECO NCEE exam

 

The registration for the Federal Unity Colleges in Nigeria is on sale on and you can register for the exam in NECO official website 

 

Though the date for 2013 NECO NCEE exam has been released but I will update this post once the examination date is out.

State Secondary School National Common Entrance Examination in Nigeria

State Secondary School National Common Entrance Examination in Nigeria unlike the Federal Secondary School National Common Entrance Examination is conducted by the State Ministry of Education in each state of the federation.

 

The common entrance examination registration can be done in your current school by purchasing the form through your school. There are important steps you must acknowledge about national common entrance registration into state public secondary schools. Though the registration process, examination date and common entrance questions varies from state to state. Also note that the common entrance exam is also regarded as Primary School Leaving Certificate and Placement Examinations.

 

During registration, you will choose examination center where you wish to write your common entrance exam and you will also choose your secondary school of choice. Remember, in order to secure your place in your chosen secondary school you must score above the cut-off mark.

 

On the day of your common entrance examination, make sure you have the following examination materials with you such as HB pencil, Eraser and Identification slips.
