First Degree To Be Made The Minimum Teaching Qualification In Nigeria
The Federal Government has announced its efforts to certify that the minimum teaching qualification in Nigeria is to be First Degree.
This was announced by the Minister of Education, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau during a reception ceremony held to honour the Finish Ambassador to Nigeria, Ambassador Pirjo Suomela-Chowdhury, who came on a courtesy call to Nigeria.
According to the Minister, the Federal Government will explore all measures to restore the respect, dignity and status of teachers in the country.
The Minister said that the Federal Government is aiming at making First degree the minimum teaching qualification, he also noted that from 1980 the minimum teaching qualification to teach in Nigerian schools is The National Certificate in Education (NCE).
