Geology Postgraduate Programs
The Postgraduate Programme in Geology targets to train competent geologists who are urgently needed for exploring and mapping Nigeria – a rapidly developing country with large expanses of geologically unexplored areas, carrying out practically-oriented research programmes into various geological problems affecting the development of the natural resources of the country and to provide graduate geologists with up-to-date specialized professional skills that will greatly enhance their knowledge and capacity for self-employment.
Furthermore, it provides training for research in areas of geological science of particular relevance to national regional requirements in Nigeria and Africa.
How to Apply
Candidates interested in studying Geology in Nigerian Postgraduate schools are to purchase the admission form upon its release. Sales of forms are announced by various schools at the beginning of the admission year.
The forms are sold at a certain amount determined by the school and can be purchased at the school and other authorised venues as announced by the school. Some schools operate an online system where the purchase and filling of forms can be done electronically via the school’s website.
In the absence of an online system, purchased forms are filled and returned to the school.
Entry Requirements
Candidates for the M.Sc must have a Second Class B.Sc Honours degree in Geology. In special cases, candidates with a lower class of degree, but with relevant professional experience, may be considered for admission.
Candidates with degrees in Engineering, Chemistry and Physical sciences may be considered depending on their background and areas of interest. In such cases, the candidates must make up deficiencies in their undergraduate training by taking appropriate remedial courses from the Geology undergraduate curriculum.
Admission Process
Admission for Geology Postgraduate programme is coordinated by the admission board established by the school authority. Nigerian Universities offer admission into Postgraduate programme of Geology based on merit.
As a result of this, the credentials submitted by prospective students are verified by the admission board according to the stated requirements for the programme. Provisional admission is offered to candidates with good results.
School Fees
Successful candidates are to pay the mandatory school fees for the programme which is part of the registration process. The fees for Mathematics Postgraduate programme in Nigerian Universities are different due to the different management of the schools. Expenses in the school fees include tuition, examinations, medicals, libraries, I.D cards, accommodation (optional) etc.
The school fees which ranges from one hundred thousand naira to three hundred thousand naira can be paid in the schools’ bank account or via e-transact on the schools’ website.
Duration
Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Geology runs for a year and the Masters Programme runs for two years in Nigerian Universities.
